Ocean friendly restaurants in kailua
Kailua Town restaurants are becoming a ‘discovered’ secret when it comes to the great variety of dining experiences available. From fresh fish caught just off Oahu’s shore to traditional Hawaiian food found only on the islands and American favorites served with a local twist, you can find it all in Kailua. Kailua Beach Adventures is proud to work with The Surfrider Foundation, an amazing organization of people fighting for the environment in unique ways. One awesome initiative they developed is called the Ocean Friendly Restaurant Certification. By making some easy but significant changes to the way a restaurant operates, like getting rid of plastic straws and Styrofoam or refusing to sell beverages in single use plastic bottles, a restaurant can be recognized as a Surfrider Ocean Friendly Restaurant Member. The following are some incredibly delicious dining options that are also doing some great things to keep plastics and other pollutants out of our oceans. Look for this symbol to make sure you are dining in an Ocean Friendly Restaurant!
Buzz’s Steakhouse
One of only two restaurants by the beach in Kailua. This is truly a local favorite for steaks and seafood and a gourmet salad bar. Enjoy indoor and outdoor seating on the deck, or drinks at the bar, just across from Kailua Beach Park! Buzz’s is also Ocean Friendly certified! Fun fact: both the Clinton’s and Obama’s have dined here.
Kalapawai Cafe
Focusing on fresh local ingredients and using deft french inspired technique, Kalapawai Cafe has established itself as one of the best restaurants in Kailua. A fun and satisfying menu pairs well with a great wine list in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. The staff is always welcoming and knowledgeable and the location is great, right at the entrance to Kailua Town. If you can’t make it for dinner, just go in for a coffee and a pastry, or a quick lunch. The sandwiches and coffee are hard to beat.
Grace in Growlers
Grace in Growlers is relatively new to the Kailua scene, but it is always busy! An interesting concept restaurant, guests buy a wristband before entering and get to pour their own beers! The selection is rotating and always has some rare and interesting beers plus a lot of local and delicious options. Grace in Growlers doesn’t serve food, but they do allow customers to bring their own food and enjoy the combination of food, great beer, and inevitably good conversation at the community table!
Lanikai Brewing Company, Tap & Barrel
Lanikai Brewing Company is the first and only local Kailua beer. They started as a small tasting room and brewery supplying local and larger stores, but have opened a fabulous new brewpub with a great beer and cider selection. No food menu yet, but you can bring your own food and there is usually a food truck outside in case you get the munchies! The beers are delicious and usually have a local twist on classic beer types.
